Rumble Arts Center is accepting reservations now for the first annual Rumble Arts Craft Fair!

This is an all ages and family friendly event! Participants can sell wares, crafts, art, baked goods, and other handmade items. The craft fair will take place on Saturday, March 24th from 1-4pm, with table set-up starting at noon.

Limited Table Space Available

$20 for a 6 foot table
$10 for a half-table

Gallery Applications Now Available!

Rumble Arts Center is now accepting applications for use of its gallery space. Cost of using the space is dependent on the particulars of its use and will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Rumble is committed to providing the space for free as often as possible, but occasionally will need to collect a nominal fee based of particular usage (i.e. kitchen use, etc.).

In 2012, Rumble Arts Center would like to offer its large, first-floor gallery space to like-minded organizations to use to display artwork, to put on theater or musical performances, or for events, fundraisers, shows, or other cultural happenings. The gallery space can be used for a single night, or can be used for art shows lasting up to one month. Rumble is especially interested in partnering with community non-profit arts organizations that cannot afford renting gallery space. This will be a factor Rumble considers when reviewing your application.

The gallery is approximately 1,250 square feet and beautifully appointed with an original tin ceiling and polished wooden floors. The walls are plain white. There is also a kitchen adjacent to the gallery space that can be used to prepare food for opening nights or other events.

Rumble would like to offer the gallery starting in June 2012, and we are accepting applications for its use now. The application can be found here.

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Rumble Arts Center!

Join Rumble Arts Center in celebrating the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Videos showcasing Dr. King’s work and speeches, as well as the history of the civil rights era, will be screened throughout the day. This event also features art activities for all ages!

Starting on Monday, Rumble Arts Center will be kicking off our 2011 Winter Intersession: two weeks of arts and education for everyone! Join us for fun and free classes Monday through Thursday, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

Adults and older teens will have their choice of Visual Arts and Textile Crafts, which run for both weeks of the Intersession. Children will have a Merengue dance class during Week 1 (December 5th-8th) and Graphic Design during Week 2 (December 12th-15th).

Our full-length Winter Session will begin in January 2012, so stay tuned to hear all about our upcoming classes!

The Creative Movement Awards celebrate the people, projects, and organizations creating a climate for social change in the United States. The awards ceremony begins at 6 PM on Friday, December 9, followed by a meet and greet reception at 8 PM.

This year, Insight Arts, a contemporary arts organization dedicated to increasing access to cultural work that supports progressive social change, has partnered with Rumble Arts Center, an accessible cultural space that facilitates the empowerment and education of individuals and communities, to present the Creative Movement awards.

Individuals that will be honored at his year’s Creative Movement awards and dinner are political advocate Van Jones, award-winning filmmaker Yvonne Welbon and Chicago poet Kevin Coval. Insight Arts will also present awards to efficacious local projects like The Miracle Center’s youth theatre production of “Chicago’s Puerto Rican Story,” and the Unemployed Action Center of Chicago Jobs with Justice. Organizational awards will be presented to Gender Just, The Silk Road Rising and Warehouse Workers for Justice.

The event will begin at 6 PM with the award ceremony at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Auditorium (280 South Columbus Drive). A dinner reception will follow at 8 PM at the Renaissance Blackstone Chicago Hotel’s Crystal Ballroom (636 South Michigan Avenue).

Tickets for the awards ceremony and reception are available for $125. Students and senior citizens may purchase reduced-rate tickets for $100. Tickets may also be purchased for the awards ceremony alone for $30, $25 for students and senior citizens. Purchase tickets online at www.insightartsliberation.org.

All proceeds benefit Insight Arts and Rumble Arts Center. Both of these nonprofit agencies are community-based arts organizations based in the working class neighborhoods of Rogers Park, Uptown, and Humboldt Park.

African Drum & Dance in the Spot Light!

You can beat the drum or let your feet carry you away with the beat in this class. Taught by the Mofindu West African Drum & Dance Co., African Drum & Dance combines simple drumming techniques and complex rhythms to create a unique class experience that is engaging for the entire family. The drumming and dances are inspired by Caribbean and West African traditions that allow students a variety of ways to participate. Whether it’s learning to pound out the rhythm on a drum or step in time with the music, this class allows students to throw themselves into the music and have a blast.

Adults-only sessions are on Sunday from 5 to 6:30pm, and all-ages sessions are on Mondays from 3:30 to 5:30pm. As with all our classes, a $5-10 donation is suggested, but no one is turned away due to a lack of funds!
